What Is a CBCT 3D X-Ray?

A CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography) scan is a 3D dental X-ray. Instead of one flat image, it captures your teeth, jawbone, nerves and sinuses from every angle and combines them into a model we can rotate and examine layer by layer. It's most useful for implants, impacted wisdom teeth and complex root canals.

At Dr Ray & Partners Dental in Bandar Mahkota Cheras, we have a Vatech PaX-i3D Smart on site, which takes both CBCT scans and panoramic X-rays. Your scan is ready in minutes, and we'll go through it with you on screen.

Going through it together

We show you the scan and explain what it means for your treatment.

Is 3D X-Ray Right for You?

A 3D scan is used when a flat X-ray can't show enough, usually before surgery or implant treatment.

You're considering a dental implant.

Your wisdom tooth is impacted or sits close to the nerve.

A root canal case needs a closer look than a flat X-ray gives.

We need to check your jaw, sinuses or bone before treatment.

If we suggest a CBCT scan, we'll always explain what it will show and why it matters for your case.

Your questions, answered.

What patients usually want to know before 3D X-Ray.

CBCT stands for Cone Beam Computed Tomography. It's a dental X-ray that rotates around your head and builds a 3D image of your teeth, jawbone, nerves and sinuses, rather than a single flat picture.

Yes. A CBCT scan uses more radiation than a standard dental X-ray but much less than a hospital CT scan. We only suggest one when the extra detail will make your treatment safer or more accurate.

A CBCT scan is an X-ray that shows what's inside: bone, roots and nerves. A 3D intraoral scan is an optical camera scan of the outside of your teeth and gums, with no radiation. Implant planning often uses both.

Yes. The same Vatech machine takes panoramic X-rays, which show all your teeth and both jaws in a single flat image.

We'll confirm the cost at your consultation, depending on the area that needs scanning.
