What Is Teeth Whitening?

Teeth whitening is a cosmetic treatment that uses a professional whitening gel to lift stains and yellowing from your enamel. Done in a dental clinic, it works faster and more evenly than shop-bought products, because the strength and timing are controlled by a dentist.

At Dr Ray & Partners Dental in Bandar Mahkota Cheras, we offer three whitening systems: Philips Zoom and Opalescence Boost for our in-clinic packages, and InnoWhite for express whitening. We'll check your teeth, explain the difference, and recommend the package that suits you.

Is Teeth Whitening Right for You?

Most adults with healthy teeth and gums can have their teeth whitened. We'll tell you honestly what whitening can and can't do for your smile.

Your teeth have yellowed or picked up stains from coffee, tea or smoking.

Your teeth and gums are healthy, or you're happy to treat any issues first.

You have an event coming up and want a brighter smile without veneers.

You'd rather have whitening done safely by a dentist than with a home kit.

If whitening isn't the right fit, for example because of crowns on your front teeth, we'll explain your other options.

Your questions, answered.

What patients usually want to know before Teeth Whitening.

We use three: Philips Zoom and Opalescence Boost for our in-clinic whitening packages, and InnoWhite for express whitening. Each package uses a different system, and we'll recommend the one that suits your teeth, your goals and your budget.

Philips Zoom uses a professional whitening gel sped up by a blue LED light, for a noticeable change in a single visit. Opalescence Boost is a chemically activated gel, so no light is needed, and it contains potassium nitrate and fluoride to help with comfort. InnoWhite, which we use for express whitening, pairs its gel with a blue LED light that doesn't heat the teeth.

Express whitening with InnoWhite is a quicker treatment for a noticeable lift in brightness. Our Philips Zoom and Opalescence Boost packages are longer, more intensive sessions for a bigger shade change. We'll explain what each can realistically achieve for your teeth before you choose.

Yes, when it's done by a dentist. We check your teeth first, protect your gums during treatment and use professional systems designed for clinical use. Some people feel mild sensitivity for a day or two afterwards, which settles on its own.

Usually anywhere from several months to a couple of years, depending on what you eat and drink and how well you look after your teeth. Cutting back on coffee, tea and smoking, and keeping up regular cleans, helps your results last.

No. Whitening only lightens natural tooth enamel, so crowns, veneers and tooth-coloured fillings stay the same shade. If you have these on your front teeth, we'll talk you through how to keep your smile even.

Yes, and it's our most popular option: the RM399 Scaling + Whitening package with EMS Airflow. Cleaning away plaque and surface stains first helps the whitening work more evenly.
