What Is Wisdom Tooth Removal?

Wisdom teeth are the last molars to come through, usually between the late teens and mid-twenties. When there isn't enough space for them, they can become stuck under the gum, grow at an angle, or push against other teeth, causing pain and infection. Removing them can be a simple extraction or a minor surgical procedure, depending on how they sit.

At Dr Ray & Partners Dental in Bandar Mahkota Cheras, every case starts with an X-ray and, where needed, a 3D CBCT scan on site, so we can plan around the nerve and explain your options before anything is done.

3

Removal

We numb the area thoroughly with local anaesthetic and remove the tooth, checking in with you throughout.

You go home with clear written aftercare instructions, and we see you again to make sure the area is healing well.

Is Wisdom Tooth Removal Right for You?

Plenty of wisdom teeth can stay. These are the usual reasons we suggest taking one out.

Your wisdom tooth is impacted, growing sideways or only partly through the gum.

You keep getting pain, swelling or infection around a back tooth.

Food gets trapped behind your last molar and causes decay or bad breath.

Your dentist or orthodontist has recommended removal before braces.

Unsure about yours? Book an X-ray and we'll show you how your wisdom teeth sit and whether they need attention.

Your questions, answered.

What patients usually want to know before Wisdom Tooth Removal.

No. If a wisdom tooth has grown in straight, can be cleaned properly and isn't causing problems, it can often stay. We only recommend removal when your X-rays and symptoms show a real reason for it.

Yes. Wisdom tooth removal at our clinic is done under local anaesthetic, which numbs the area completely while you stay awake. We explain each step as we go and you can ask us to pause at any time.

Some swelling and tenderness for the first few days is normal, and it usually improves steadily after the second day. Many people are back at work or school within 2 to 3 days, and most feel much better within 3 to 7 days. We'll give you written aftercare instructions to help it heal smoothly.

An impacted wisdom tooth doesn't have enough room to come through properly, so it stays partly or fully under the gum or grows at an angle. This can trap food and bacteria, cause infections, or press on the tooth in front.

It depends on how the tooth sits and whether it needs a surgical removal or a simpler extraction. We'll confirm the cost after your X-ray and examination, before anything is done.
