What Is a Dental Filling?

A filling repairs a tooth that has been damaged by decay. The decayed part is removed, and the space is filled with tooth-coloured composite material that bonds to the tooth and restores its shape.

At Dr Ray & Partners Dental in Bandar Mahkota Cheras, we treat cavities while they're small, so the repair stays simple and more of your natural tooth is kept.

Is Dental Fillings Right for You?

A filling is usually the simplest fix when decay is found early.

A tooth is sensitive to sweet, hot or cold food.

You can see a dark spot or hole in a tooth.

Food keeps catching in the same place.

An old filling is cracked, worn or darkened.

Many cavities don't hurt at first. Regular check-ups help us catch them while they're small.

Your questions, answered.

What patients usually want to know before Dental Fillings.

We numb the tooth before we start, so you shouldn't feel pain. You might notice mild sensitivity for a few days afterwards, which normally fades.

If an old amalgam filling is cracked, leaking or has decay around it, we can replace it with a tooth-coloured one. We don't recommend replacing healthy fillings just for appearance without discussing it first.

Most fillings take between 20 and 45 minutes, depending on the size and position of the cavity.

Tooth-coloured fillings set hard straight away, but wait until the numbness wears off so you don't bite your cheek or tongue.

It depends on the size of the cavity and which tooth it's in. We'll confirm the cost before we begin.
